Birmingham: Infrastructure Paving the Way For The Future
Birmingham has a wide range of infrastructure projects in development that are setting the scene and providing a sneak peak into the future vision of Birmingham: a connected city, with luxury apartments, beautiful architecture and a true tourist destination.
The All New New Street Station
If anything acts as a catalyst for inner city regeneration – it’s the new New Street Station. With it’s striking architecture and vastly improved capacity, it is providing a foundation for growth and giving the city it’s first major step towards the vision of a connected city. It’s a tourist destination in its own right with shops, restaurants and bars – all worth visiting.
Metro Line Tram
With the development of the Metro line further connecting Birmingham’s business district and the shopping district with the rest of the city. It provides a sustainable transport choice across a previously disconnected city, linking people and jobs and reducing journey times across the city.
High Speed 2
Looking to connect Birmingham to the wealth of the South East and beyond, to Europe. The HS2 development is set to be completed by 2033, investors are already putting their money into the area in anticipation of its completion. Independent research suggests that the development could create 50,000 jobs across the West Midlands with 26,000 of these being in Birmingham and Solihull. Adding to this, an estimated £4billion increase in economic output a year – it’s clear to see that these infrastructure projects look to transform Birmingham from the second city to the powerhouse outside of the South East. Perhaps returning Birmingham to its former glory, experienced only during the industrial revolution.
